Ikea Malm Bedroom Inspiration
IKEA/Good Housekeeping
No one wants to spend hours doing the dishes or washing vegetables, but the right sink and faucet combination can make your time spent there fly by. And, with a few useful accessories, it may even be—dare we say—enjoyable.
Sink selection should be as carefully considered as any other element in the kitchen. From choosing the right material and size to finding the perfect faucet style, here's what you need to know when shopping for a new one.
.
Size
The size of your kitchen will dictate the size of your sink. If you're working with limited space, you don't want to sacrifice a lot of counter real estate to accommodate a large double-bowl sink.
IKEA sells several different size sinks ranging from 15 ¾ inches to 36 inches, including a double-bowl option that offers one side for washing and another side for rinsing. Even if you have a dishwasher, a dual sink can still be useful in a busy kitchen because it allows you to multitask. You can use one sink for food prep, and the other to house dirty pots and pans before you load them into the dishwasher.

Installation
You have two options when it comes to installing a kitchen sink: drop-in or under-mounted. As the name implies, a drop-in sink is placed in a hole in the counter, with the lip of the sink resting on the countertop.
An under-mounted sink allows for a seamless transition from counter to sink bowl, as the sink is mounted on the underside of the countertop. It offers a sleek, modern look, but installation can be more expensive. It also should be used with a countertop made of a solid material like quartz (as opposed to butcher block or laminate) because the edge of the counter needs to be waterproof. Materials
The best material for you depends on the style of your kitchen and how you use your sink.
Stainless steel
Durable and everlasting, stainless steel is the standard in kitchen sinks. It's resistant to dents (a bonus if you're prone to tossing things in) and easy to keep clean. All stainless steel sinks from IKEA are constructed with a sound-absorbing material to reduce resonance and limit noise when using them. Options from IKEA include the NORRSJÖN, HILLESJÖN, and LÅNGUDDEN series.

Quartz composite
Quartz composite sinks are made from 80 percent stone powder and 20 percent acrylic for an extremely durable, completely nonporous surface. They're naturally sound-absorbing, odor-resistant, and will retain their color for a lifetime. The quartz composite HÄLLVIKEN sink comes in white or black.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic sinks have become an extremely popular choice, as they work well with a traditional or country style. Because of the exposed front side (called an "apron front") they're often a stylistic choice rather than a necessity. Ceramic is easy to clean and resistant to high temperatures, but is less forgiving than stainless steel, so a dropped glass will likely break. The HAVSEN ceramic sink comes in three sizes to fit any type of kitchen.

Faucets
If aesthetics are the driving force behind your kitchen redesign, pay extra attention to your faucet. All IKEA faucets come with a 10-year limited warranty and feature a water-saving mechanism that reduces flow while maintaining pressure. Here are our top picks.
Modern: For a minimalist look, go for the BOSJÖN, which has a slim, angular profile. It comes in a brushed black metal, stainless steel, or white finish to work with a variety of styles. The smaller size makes this a good choice for a 24" sink.
Traditional: The black GLITTRAN pairs perfectly with the HAVSEN sink for an on-trend farmhouse style, while the chrome-plated version skews more classic.
Contemporary: A nontraditional choice, the NYVATTNET brass faucet turns your sink into an eye-catching design feature. It has an elegant profile and high spout, which makes it easy to wash dishes and fill large pots.
IKEA
Handspray: For larger double-bowl sinks, you'll want a faucet with a handspray to make rinsing and washing easier. The VIMMERN lets you switch between a constant stream or shower, and the magnetic hand holder makes it easy to quickly reattach.
High spout: A taller faucet means more clearance in the sink, so you can easily fill your pasta pot or wash a stack of dishes. The INSJÖN comes in three finishes and features a retractable hose.

Accessories
Make your sink work harder with a few smart extras.
